The New York Society for General Semantics is very proud to present an in-person event at the historic Players at 16 Gramercy Park South in New York City. On the evening of Wednesday, November 30th, we will be featuring the work of the internationally celebrated poet, performer, cultural theorist and media artist Adeena Karasick.
Massaging the Medium: An Evening with Adeena Karasick will feature an interview with Dr. Karasick, a live performance, and discussion of her latest publication, "Massaging the Medium: Seven Pechakuchas."
Massaging the Medium consists of seven poetic probes and explorations of philosophical concepts regarding language, literature, media, technology, consciousness, and culture. Drawing inspiration from the field of media ecology and the discipline of general semantics, the text plays with language, and is accompanied by illustrations based on pechakucha presentations, here adapted for the print medium.
What is a pechakucha, you might ask? There are many ways to find out, of course, but none more enjoyable (to our thinking) than attending this event.
Our proceedings will begin with refreshments and a social hour between 6pm and 7pm, at which time we will begin the program with Dr. Karasick. We hope you will join us in celebration of Dr. Karasick and her latest creation.
Registration is free, but all attendees must be registered in order to gain admittance to the club. This includes any guests you might want to bring with you.
The program will take place in the Library on the 2nd floor of the club. Please note that, as an historic 19th century landmark, the site is not handicap accessible. Dress code is business casual and is strictly enforced, including no sneakers, shorts, ripped jeans, t-shirts).
